Agency (New Delhi): A significant political controversy has emerged regarding the Covishield vaccine’s side effects, with opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leveling serious accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). These parties allege that the BJP engaged in corrupt practices during the vaccine’s rollout and mishandled its distribution, putting public health at risk.
The SP’s national general secretary Shivpal Yadav, and Dimple Yadav, an SP candidate, claimed that the BJP received large commissions and allowed the use of low-quality vaccines. These actions, they suggest, have led to an increase in health issues, including heart attacks, attributed to the vaccine’s side effects.
Additionally, the UP Congress chief, Ajay Rai, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using the vaccine as a campaign tool during elections, questioning the BJP’s responsibility for the alleged adverse effects. The controversy deepened with reports from the UK indicating that AstraZeneca, the vaccine’s manufacturer, acknowledged the possibility of very rare blood clot-related side effects in legal documents.
The RJD took to social media to challenge PM Modi directly, asking who would be accountable for the heart attack deaths linked to the vaccine. They insinuated that the BJP’s push for the vaccine was motivated by financial gains through electoral bonds, rather than public health concerns.
This issue has sparked a heated debate across political lines, with opposition parties demanding accountability and transparency in the vaccine’s administration and its reported complications. The allegations of corruption and improper testing are likely to be key issues in the ongoing political discourse as more details emerge.
