Agency (Bengaluru): A 23-year-old YouTuber was taken into custody for allegedly trespassing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and fabricating a story for his channel, according to police reports on Thursday.
The individual, identified as Vikas Gowda from Yelahanka, Bengaluru, had purchased a ticket for a Chennai-bound Air India flight on April 7. Police stated that he intentionally missed the flight to wander the airport and record a video on his phone.
On April 12, Gowda uploaded the video to his YouTube channel, which boasts nearly 113,000 subscribers, claiming he spent an entire day inside the airport and explored various restricted areas, evading security measures. He later deleted this video.
According to a senior police officer, “He accessed the airport, passed security at Terminal-2, and proceeded to the boarding lounge. However, instead of boarding his flight, he roamed the airport for about six hours.” After filming, he left the airport, alleging to security that he had missed his flight. Holding a valid ticket and boarding pass, he initially did not raise suspicion.
This incident came to the attention of airport security on April 15. Following a complaint by a Central Industrial Security Force official, Gowda was charged under Sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 448 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code. He has since been released on bail, pending further investigation. This case highlights the growing trend of social media figures performing risky stunts for viral fame, often crossing legal boundaries.
