Agency(Bengaluru): Bengaluru police have taken six individuals into custody following an assault on an activist in the Kengeri area of western Bengaluru. The attack, involving bill-hook machetes, was prompted by an RTI (Right to Information) application filed concerning a disputed land encroachment case.
The apprehended suspects include Manish Mohan Poojari (28), Shashi Kumar Reddy (20), Krishna (30), Satish (44), Venugopal alias Kumaraswamy (51), and Govindaraju KG. The altercation stemmed from an RTI application submitted by Nagaraj K, which alleged land encroachment in Kumbalagodu by Govindaraju, igniting the conflict that eventually led to the violent incident.
Although Nagaraj and Govindaraju initially agreed to resolve their differences peacefully, Govindaraju later resolved to eliminate Nagaraj. To carry out this plan, he enlisted Krishna, known for his criminal activities in Chandra Layout. Krishna, in turn, recruited four additional men and meticulously planned the attack, monitoring Nagaraj’s movements for nearly five days.
The attack was executed on February 29, around 1 pm, as Nagaraj was returning from a physiotherapy session. Two motorcycle-riding assailants ambushed him near a railway underpass in Kengeri. Krishna, one of the attackers, inflicted a severe cut on Nagaraj’s back with a bill-hook machete. Despite the injury, Nagaraj managed to escape by quickly turning around and fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, the police swiftly responded to the complaint and arrested the six suspects involved in the attack. Charges have been filed against them at the Kengeri police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempted murder, wrongful restraint, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, and criminal intimidation.
