Agency(Hyderabad): A promotional gesture by a hotel in Hyderabad offering free haleem spiraled into chaos, necessitating police intervention to restore order. The incident occurred when the hotel’s announcement of free haleem, a popular delicacy, attracted an overwhelming crowd, disrupting traffic and leading to uncontrollable scenes near the establishment on Tuesday.
The local police were compelled to use “mild force” to disperse the crowd after attempts by the hotel staff to manage the situation proved futile. The event took an unexpected turn, with social media flooded with images and videos of police action outside the hotel.
A police official from the Malakpet Police Station reported that a case has been filed against the hotel management for causing public disturbance under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The official clarified that the police did not resort to a lathi-charge as earlier suggested by some social media posts.
The situation highlighted the lack of coordination between the hotel management and local law enforcement. Police remarked that prior notification of the event could have allowed for adequate preparation and deployment of forces to ensure public safety and order. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of planning and communication in organizing public events, especially those likely to draw large crowds.
