Agency(Bengaluru): Bengaluru’s railway stations are set to enrich the dining landscape with the launch of theme-based rail coach restaurants by the end of March. The initiative, announced by South Western Railways (SWR), will introduce these unique dining venues at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station and Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal.
Following a successful e-auction in June 2023, which saw notable interest from bidders, M/s Haldirams and Gaurav Enterprises were awarded the operation of the restaurants at KSR and SMVT stations, respectively, for a five-year contract. These establishments, inspired by the already operational ‘Bogie Bogie’ at Sri Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station in Hubballi, aim to offer a novel dining experience within a railway coach tailored to food enthusiasts’ tastes.
The design of these restaurants will closely follow the blueprint of ‘Bogie Bogie’, providing a blend of comfort and aesthetics through meticulously modified railway coaches. These coaches will feature air-conditioned interiors and additional non-air-conditioned seating outside, accommodating around 50 guests inside with more space available outdoors.
Officials underscored the original October 2023 deadline for opening, highlighting the strategic placement of these restaurants near station entrances for easy access. The interior design promises an inviting atmosphere with artistic decorations, warm lighting, and cozy seating arrangements.
SWR’s vision for these dining spots includes offering an array of culinary choices to satisfy both vegetarian and non-vegetarian patrons, with separate kitchens dedicated to each. The menu will encompass a rich variety of North and South Indian cuisines, ensuring a memorable gastronomic journey for travelers and visitors alike, around the clock.
