Agency(Bengaluru): Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ceremonially laid the foundation stone for ‘Ahara Soudha’ in Bengaluru, heralding the construction of a new edifice for the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. This development marks a significant shift from the department’s long-standing arrangement of operating from leased properties.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony on Ali Asker Road, Siddaramaiah highlighted the pivotal role of ‘Ahara Soudha’ in streamlining the operations of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department. For years, the absence of a dedicated government building had the department functioning from rented spaces. The construction of ‘Ahara Soudha’ not only promises a consolidated workspace for the department but also aims to facilitate the efficient implementation of the Anna Bhagya scheme by housing all relevant sections under one roof.
The upcoming four-story building, encompassing an area of 30,000 square feet, will be erected with an estimated budget of Rs 49.50 crore. This initiative is seen as a strategic move to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery in the vital sector of food and civil supplies.
The event saw the participation of KH Muniyappa, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Byrathi Suresh, Minister of Urban Development and Town Planning, alongside officials from the Legal Meteorology Department, reflecting the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure for public welfare departments.
