Agency(Bengaluru): In a decisive move to address the growing menace of cybercrimes, Bengaluru’s top officials convened at the Vidhana Soudha for a high-level meeting on Monday. The session, aimed at curbing the spread of fake news and the sharing of morphed images and videos, brought together Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Home Minister G Parameshwara, along with police leadership.
In the aftermath of the meeting, Home Minister Parameshwara revealed the establishment of a multi-coordination committee dedicated to cybercrime management, to be helmed by a senior police official. Additionally, a nodal officer will be appointed to shoulder increased responsibilities, primarily acting as the conduit for cybercrime-related information between the police force and the government, as facilitated by the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP).
Sources privy to the meeting’s proceedings indicated that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was developed, outlining a comprehensive action plan against cybercrimes. This plan encompasses protocols for identifying, verifying, and addressing cybercrime incidents, as well as discussions on the technological resources required for effective implementation.
This strategic initiative marks a significant step towards bolstering cyber security and combating digital crimes in Bengaluru, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring a safer online environment for its citizens.
