New Delhi (Agency): Around 5,000 unit owners representing 70 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) industry associations from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Erode districts are set to hold a hunger protest on September 7 in Karanampettai, Coimbatore.
The protest aims to draw attention to their demands related to electricity tariff issues. The representatives of these associations clarified that the protest is not against the government but seeks to address concerns regarding peak hour charges and increased fixed charges for LT CT category MSME units. The power cost for these units has risen by over 400%, affecting their competitiveness against industries in other states. The participants will announce their next course of action during the protest.
The associations have also established the Tamil Nadu Industrial Electricity Consumers Federation to bring attention to the challenges posed by high electricity costs and have planned further measures to address these issues.
