Over 280 LNW India volunteers drive sustainability through upcycling t-shirts into cloth bags and tree plantation initiatives across Chennai, Pune, and Bangalore, impacting local communities and promoting environmental stewardship.
Bangalore: LNW India Solutions Private Limited (“LNW”), a global gaming technology player and subsidiary of Light & Wonder, Inc., concluded its ‘Month of Giving’ initiatives across Chennai, Pune, and Bangalore. With over 280 employees volunteering to work on waste reduction and environmental conservation projects, the initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of volunteerism and environmental sustainability among the employees and local communities.
LNW, in collaboration with Way for Life, an NGO dedicated to environmental and community welfare, upcycled over 200 cloth bags from pre-owned t-shirts donated by the employees. The reusable bags will be distributed to local vegetable vendors to reduce their dependence on single-use plastic bags, promoting environment-friendly practices. A certain number of bags have been retained by employees to enable them to adhere to sustainable habits at home.
As part of the second activity under ‘Month of Giving’, LNW employees, in collaboration with Grow Billion Trees NGO, planted 833 saplings across multiple locations in Pune, Chennai, and Bangalore. This drive was part of LNW’s continued efforts to increase green coverage in urban areas and address existing air quality concerns. The saplings planted include a wide variety, such as almonds, guava, mango, jackfruit, and more. This initiative will be crucial in improving local ecosystems and providing cleaner air to surrounding communities.
Reflecting on the program’s success, Ritu Bhati, Vice President of People Capability—India, LNW, said, “I was happy to see so many employees participating in the ‘Month of Giving initiative.’ We aim to foster a culture of volunteerism within our organisation and believe that our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives help address environmental challenges and support local communities, reflecting our core values.”
The ‘Month of Giving’ initiative is part of LNW’s broader CSR program known as Game Changers, which seeks to create change by engaging employees in meaningful, community-based activities. By working with local NGOs such as Way for Life and Grow Billion Trees, the organisation has been able to positively extend its impact beyond its office into the communities where its employees live and work.
Tracy Skenandore, Vice President of Global Corporate Social Responsibility, also stated, “The work our India team is doing is truly changing the game in the local communities where we work and live. As a global organisation, Light & Wonder is committed to serving as stewards of all communities and environments where we operate across six continents, where we have collected volunteer more than 16,000 hours globally each year. We hold ourselves accountable to drive lasting change and impact, as reflected in our Global Annual CSR report.”
Light & Wonder’s global CSR program, Game Changers, aims to drive positive, lasting change in areas of environmental sustainability, education, and community development. Additionally, LNW continues to work on several other CSR projects, including skill development programs for women with disabilities, educational sponsorships for underprivileged children, providing essential supplies to children from shelter homes, and supporting the construction of recharge wells, solar panels, etc.
