New Delhi (Agency): RJD president Lalu Prasad has vociferously attacked the Narendra Modi administration two days after a new chargesheet was lodged against him, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, son and current Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, among others, concerning the land-for-jobs scam. Prasad, implicated for corruption during his term as railway minister, claimed that his family and he were targeted relentlessly with “one case after another.”
“Mukadama par mukadama,” uttered Prasad, whilst addressing party affiliates following the inauguration of a function commemorating 27 years of the RJD’s establishment.
Prasad, employing his native Bhojpuri tongue, rhetorically asked the Prime Minister, “What will happen to you (Modi) when your days are over? At least we have earned the goodwill and are still showered with petals and garlands.”
In his impassioned speech, Prasad also praised the efforts of Nitish Kumar, Bihar’s Chief Minister and a former political adversary turned ally, in fostering opposition unity. The septuagenarian promised to “root out” the BJP in the impending 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Karnataka was a precursor (jhanki),” Lalu stated, alluding to the BJP’s defeat in the southern region. He cryptically referenced Maharashtra and indicted the saffron party for “horse trading.”
Drawing attention to the “Mahagathbandhan” in Bihar, he lauded it as a gleaming testament to opposition unity. Prasad emphasized the necessity of persisting in their struggle against communalism and any attempts to dismantle the reservation system, a heritage from Ambekar.
The CBI’s allegations are associated with Group-D positions for ‘substitutes’ appointed in the Western Central Zone based in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Prasad’s tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009. Officials allege that these appointments were granted in exchange for land parcels given or transferred by the recruits in the name of Lalu Prasad’s family or associates.
