New Delhi (Agency): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has publicly criticized the Modi administration, alleging its neglect of the Indian Army’s critical staffing shortages at the Major and Captain levels. The Congress leader insinuated that the government seems more preoccupied with destabilizing political parties than ensuring the effective functioning of the country’s military forces.
Kharge took to Twitter to voice his concerns, referencing a media report that the Army is grappling with a severe scarcity of officers at certain ranks. The report suggested the military was considering reducing staff officers’ postings at various headquarters and potentially appointing re-employed officers to mitigate the dearth in the units. In his tweet, Kharge stated, “Modi Govt has all the time to break political parties, but it has NO time to fill in important vacancies in the Armed Forces. Those who trumpet ‘Nationalism’ on a daily basis have betrayed our Armed Forces like no other.”
Furthermore, Kharge reported a staggering 2 lakh vacancies across the armed forces and the Central Armed Police Forces. He took a jab at the Modi administration’s alleged mismanagement of the country’s military resources, suggesting that the Agnipath scheme was an overt sign of the government’s financial mismanagement in support of the nation’s soldiers.
The Congress chief also censured the government’s implementation of the OROP (One Rank One Pension) scheme, claiming it fostered divisions among the ranks of India’s brave soldiers. “Modi Government has betrayed the Defence community on OROP implementation and created a divide among our brave Jawans by inducing large scale anomalies in OROP-2. For Modi Government & the BJP, National Security is not a National priority. Only betraying the mandate of the people is their priority,” Kharge alleged.
