The prime minister’s visit to Egypt is a reciprocal gesture following Egyptian President El-Sisi’s attendance as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations earlier this year. It marks the first official visit by an Indian prime minister to Egypt in 26 years, highlighting the renewed emphasis on deepening ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi engaged in a roundtable meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Mostafa Madbouly, further strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries. The warm welcome received by the prime minister, with chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Modi Modi,’ reflected the enthusiastic support of the Indian community present at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
In recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s contributions to strengthening India-Egypt relations, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi honored him with the prestigious “Order of the Nile,” the highest state honor bestowed by Egypt.
This visit comes at a time when Egypt has expressed interest in joining the BRICS group, of which India is a key member. The timing underscores the importance of India’s engagement with Egypt and the potential for mutual collaboration in various sectors.
