Review Overview

Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday criticised the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of failing to fulfil key election promises and claimed that growing public dissatisfaction could translate into gains for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming municipal elections.

Addressing the media, Kumar questioned the state government over the non-implementation of several poll assurances, including a ₹4,000 monthly pension for the elderly, distribution of 10 grams of gold to newly married women, scooters for girls, dearness allowance for employees, and employment opportunities for youth. He also alleged delays in pension payments to retired employees.

Kumar said public anger is increasing due to poor civic infrastructure, citing malfunctioning roads, drainage systems, and water supply in villages and municipalities. He further claimed that development of public amenities such as graveyards and temples has been neglected.

“People voted against the BRS out of anger and supported Congress, but even after two years, the Congress government has failed to deliver. There is no trust or confidence left,” Kumar said, adding that voters are now considering supporting the BJP to ensure uninterrupted development at the local body level.

The Union Minister also alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is apprehensive about upcoming elections due to the BJP’s rising support. He claimed that statements made by the Chief Minister reflect frustration and an acceptance of potential defeat.

Referring to comments by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Kumar questioned whether there was a tacit understanding between the Congress and AIMIM to counter the BJP. He alleged that in Karimnagar, Congress had diverted funds and political support to AIMIM instead of strengthening its own party cadre, suggesting the existence of a “secret agreement” between the two parties.

Kumar claimed that Congress leaders and workers should reflect on how the party is being weakened by its own leadership, asserting that attempts by Congress and AIMIM to block the BJP’s rise would ultimately fail.
