Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), January 30: Jharkhand Police successfully rescued Kairav Gandhi, the son of Jamshedpur-based businessman Devang Gandhi, from kidnappers following a multi-state operation. Three miscreants were injured during an encounter with police, officials said on Friday.
According to Bistupur Police Station Officer Alok Dubey, Kairav Gandhi was kidnapped on January 13 near the Bistupur police station. After an extensive investigation, police traced the suspects and rescued the victim on the intervening night of January 26 and 27.
Police teams conducted raids across multiple districts in Bihar, leading to the arrest of several suspects. During the operation, three accused—identified as Guddu Singh, Imran Alam, and Rameez Raja, all residents of Bihar’s Nalanda and Gaya districts—were injured in retaliatory firing.
Officer Dubey said the accused had confessed to discarding weapons along the roadside during the kidnapping. While attempting to recover the arms, the suspects allegedly snatched a cartridge and fired six rounds at police personnel. No police officer was injured in the firing.
“In response, the police fired five rounds in self-defence, which struck the three accused in their legs,” Dubey said. The injured suspects were hospitalised, their condition is stable, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police recovered two country-made pistols and four live cartridges from the spot.
Devang Gandhi is the Director of Empire Auto Pvt Ltd, and his son Kairav Gandhi has also been serving as a Director in the company for the past 11 months.
Further details in the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
Separately, in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month, Nawabganj Police in Bareilly district arrested three men in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl. Circle Officer Nilesh Mishra said the main accused and two accomplices were arrested and have been remanded to judicial custody.
