Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Koinadhara Guest House in Guwahati on Friday during his two-day visit to Assam.

During the meeting, Governor Kataria extended his heartfelt thanks to the Home Minister for the recently approved grant of ₹125 crore for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. He stated that the funds would significantly aid in enhancing the city’s infrastructure and civic amenities, according to an official statement from the Punjab Raj Bhavan.

The Governor also briefed the Home Minister on the recent flood situation in Punjab. He shared details about the ongoing relief and rescue operations, the conditions in the affected regions, and the support required for future rehabilitation efforts.

Both leaders also held discussions on various issues, including regional development, public service delivery, and disaster management.

Army, Air Force Continue Flood Relief Operations in Punjab

Meanwhile, flood relief and rescue operations continue in various parts of Punjab. On Thursday, the Indian Army deployed Army Aviation helicopters under its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission to assist flood-hit regions.

According to the Additional Directorate General (ADG) of Public Information, Indian Army, aviation units have been working round the clock in challenging weather conditions. In one such operation on August 27 at around 4 p.m., three Cheetah helicopters carried out multiple sorties to rescue 27 people from rising floodwaters in the Lassian area of Gurdaspur district.

In Pathankot, Chinook helicopters from the Indian Air Force, in coordination with the Punjab Police, continued to deliver relief materials to stranded residents. The joint operation remains active in the severely affected areas.

In Amritsar district, the Indian Army deployed its all-terrain ATOR N1200 Specialist Mobility Vehicle (SMV) on Thursday for rescue efforts, as per a release from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Relief and rehabilitation operations are ongoing across flood-affected districts as authorities coordinate efforts to provide aid and restore normalcy.
