Assam: In a continued effort to combat drug trafficking, Assam Police have made significant seizures of heroin and Yaba tablets in separate operations conducted across Cachar and Sribhumi districts.

In Cachar district, police arrested three individuals—Ubir Ali (30), Rajak Ali (26), and Moiz Ali (30)—all residents of Darrang district. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Cachar police intercepted an auto-rickshaw on Sunday and recovered 83 grams of heroin from their possession. The seized heroin, valued at approximately ₹41.5 lakh, was confirmed using a drug detection kit. The operation was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, confirmed that further investigation into the case is ongoing.

In a separate incident, Sribhumi district police seized 20,000 Yaba tablets valued at over ₹3 crore during an operation on Saturday night. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the trafficking attempt.

Additionally, on August 5, Cachar police recovered 216 grams of heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets in a well-coordinated operation at Sonabarighat under Silchar police station and Hmarkhawlen under Lakhipur police station. The drugs were concealed in 18 soap cases and transported using two vehicles, which have been seized.

Five suspects—Ayesha Begum Chaudhary, Muslima Begum Mazumder, Jalal Ahmed Chaudhary, Rabijul Ali Chaudhary, and Lalpu Singsit—were arrested during the operations.

SP Mahatta stated that the black-market value of the seized narcotics is estimated at ₹7 crore. The contraband and vehicles were confiscated in the presence of independent witnesses, and drug detection kits confirmed the presence of heroin and methamphetamine.

Investigations into both cases are currently underway as police tighten their net on drug trafficking in the region.
