New Delhi: Starting Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has implemented a slight hike in passenger fares across all metro routes. The revised fare structure sees an increase ranging between Rs 1 and Rs 4 depending on the distance travelled, while fares on the Airport Express Line have gone up by Rs 1 to Rs 5.
The base fare for Delhi Metro travel has now been raised from Rs 10 to Rs 11.
Announcing the update on X (formerly Twitter), DMRC stated, “The passenger fares of the Delhi Metro services have been revised with effect from today, that is, 25th August 2025 (Monday) onwards. The increase is minimal, ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 4 only depending on the distance of travel (up to Rs 5 for the Airport Express Line).”
Revised Fare Structure (Weekdays):
0–2 km: Rs 11 (up from Rs 10)
2–5 km: Rs 21
5–12 km: Rs 32
12–21 km: Rs 43
21–32 km: Rs 54
Above 32 km: Rs 64
Revised Fare Structure (Sundays & National Holidays):
0–5 km: Rs 11
5–12 km: Rs 21
12–21 km: Rs 32
21–32 km: Rs 43
Above 32 km: Rs 54
This marks the first fare revision since 2017, when the base fare was increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10, and the maximum fare (for distances above 32 km) was raised to Rs 50.
Commuter Reactions
While the DMRC describes the fare hike as “minimal,” some passengers are expressing concerns about affordability and convenience.
Sonia, a daily commuter, shared with, “A middle-class family cannot afford these rising metro fares. While some people may not mind, many are affected. I think the fares should remain the same so the middle class can continue using the metro comfortably.”
Another passenger, Armaan, noted, “The fare hike of Rs 2–4 isn’t a big issue. But the government should focus on improving payment systems. Metro cards don’t work everywhere, and that’s a bigger problem.”
Despite the fare revision, the DMRC maintains that the Delhi Metro remains one of the most affordable and efficient public transport systems in the country.
