Nuh, Haryana: Security has been significantly heightened in Haryana’s Nuh district as authorities prepare for the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra scheduled for Monday, amid tight police surveillance and precautionary restrictions. This move follows communal violence that marred the yatra two years ago in July 2023, when clashes erupted after a mob attacked a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, triggering unrest across southern Haryana.
To ensure peace this year, 18 police companies and 2,000 personnel have been deployed across key areas of Nuh. Drones are also being used for aerial surveillance to monitor crowd movements and preempt any untoward incidents. The Yatra, being held on the fourth Monday of the Hindu holy month of Shravan, will begin in Nuh and pass through Jhirka before reaching a temple.
Speaking to reporters, Nuh Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said, “Comprehensive security arrangements have been made. We are committed to ensuring that the event proceeds without disruption. Individuals with a history of attempting to provoke or hinder the procession have been restrained from participating.”
He added that in compliance with court directives, individuals known for delivering inflammatory speeches or spreading hate have also been barred from the event, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating police orders.
As a preventive step, the Haryana government has ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district. The suspension, effective from 9:00 PM on July 13 until 9:00 PM on July 14, is aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation and preventing the mobilisation of violent gatherings via social media platforms.
According to an official order from the Department of Home Affairs, the restriction was imposed under Section 20 of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, and Rule 3 of the Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024. The order cited apprehensions of public disorder, potential damage to property, and disturbance of peace due to the possible misuse of internet and messaging platforms for spreading rumours or provocative content.
The government has warned that anyone found violating the suspension order will face strict legal consequences under the relevant laws.
