New Delhi: The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR), a key launch facility of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Real Time Governance System (RTGS) to leverage space technology in delivering real-time, citizen-focused services.

The MoU was formalized in the presence of SDSC SHAR Director A. Rajarajan and RTGS CEO Prakhar Jain. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the development on social media platform X, calling it a “landmark step” towards integrating advanced space technologies into governance frameworks.

According to the Chief Minister, the collaboration will significantly enhance the state’s AWARE platform—an integrated monitoring and response system—by incorporating satellite imagery and scientific data into over 42 service applications. These include sectors such as agriculture, weather forecasting, disaster response, and urban development.

“AWARE integrates inputs from satellites, drones, IoT devices, ground sensors, mobile feeds, and CCTV networks to provide real-time alerts and advisories to both citizens and government officials via SMS, WhatsApp, and digital media platforms,” Naidu noted in his post.

In a related development, on May 23, Chief Minister Naidu submitted a detailed proposal to the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh, seeking central support to develop Andhra Pradesh as a major hub for space innovation and manufacturing.

The proposal outlines the establishment of two state-supported “Space Cities”—one adjacent to the SHAR launch centre and another near Lepakshi—envisioned as integrated ecosystems for satellite production, launch vehicle development, and industry collaboration.

The Chief Minister also announced the appointment of former ISRO Chairman Dr S. Somanath as the Honorary Adviser on Space Technology to the Andhra Pradesh government. Dr Somanath’s expertise will guide the state’s mission to build a globally competitive space economy.

“With its strategic geography, robust infrastructure, and industrial potential, Andhra Pradesh is fully committed to contributing to India’s space ambitions,” said Naidu. “We seek the Centre’s support and partnership in this transformative journey.”

The agreement marks a significant stride in fostering Centre-State collaboration aimed at strengthening
