Bangalore (Aryavarth): Sushruta Jayanti is celebrated every year on July 15 to honour the legendary Sushruta at Sri Paripoorna Sanathana Ayurveda Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, hailed as the father of surgery. He has described various surgical and reconstructive techniques in Ayurveda.
His works are compiled as the core textbook of Ayurveda, named Sushruta Samhita. The description of 60 types of upakrama for the treatment of wounds, 120 surgical instruments, and 300 surgical procedures, as well as the classification of human surgeries into eight categories, stands unique among the entire medical field and has also paved the way for various other fields of medicine.
To commemorate this remarkable figure and his invaluable contributions to the field of surgery, the Department of Ayurveda Samhita Siddhanta evum Samskrutam, SPSAMCHRC, organised a prestigious event called “Sowshrutam 2024” at lecture hall 01 from 12 pm onwards, with the grace and blessings of our Paramapoojya Prof. Dr. A. V. Srinivasan Swamiji. Dr. Shivappa, HOD, Department . of SSS, inaugurated the function in the presence of Dr. Gopika. C., Dr. Amrutha. S. Kulkarni, and Mr. Adithya H. N. He also delivered a speech on the importance of the contributions of Marharshi Sushruta, along with the importance of Sushruta Samhita in the present scenario. Dr. Lakshminarayana from Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, along with our principal, Dr. Veerayyaswami S. Charanthimath, graced the occasion with their presence. Batch Samshlesha and Batch Sowshruti were part of the function, which was followed by a short Shloka Paarayana session of Sushruta Samhita led by Dr. Gopika. C. Pushpaarchana, offered by all the teachers and students, concluded the event.
