Agency (New Delhi): Amid ongoing suspense over whether the TDP or JD(U) might join the opposition alliance, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav advised people to “wait and watch” on June 5. Yadav, who shared a flight from Patna to Delhi with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, clarified that their interaction was limited to exchanging courtesies, despite fueling speculations about potential talks.
When asked about the opposition INDIA bloc’s efforts to gather the numbers needed to stake a claim to government formation, Yadav responded, “We have come for the meeting today. Have patience, wait and watch what happens.”
Yadav emphasized Bihar’s significant role in the elections, referring to the state as a “kingmaker.” He expressed hopes that the new government would grant special status to Bihar, conduct a nationwide caste census, and include the 75 percent reservation for Bihar in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution to exempt it from judicial review.
“Bihar has emerged as the kingmaker. Whichever government comes, the kingmaker should ensure that Bihar gets a special status, the 75 percent reservation we gave, that should be brought under Schedule 9, and a caste census should be conducted across the country,” Yadav stated.
Yadav also praised the Samajwadi Party candidate’s victory in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, noting, “We won Ayodhya. The prime minister used hate speech against Muslims. Ram-ji also taught him a lesson. We are happy that the people of the country have voted to save the Constitution and to give a lesson to the autocratic regime. The people of this country don’t like politics of hatred. In the last 10 years, Modi did not give any account of his work, so people taught him a lesson.”
INDIA bloc leaders are set to meet at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on the evening of June 5 to strategize for government formation. Notable opposition leaders, including Sharad Pawar, M.K. Stalin, Champai Soren, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Sitaram Yechury, and D. Raja, along with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, are expected to attend the meeting.
