Agency (Punjab And Haryana): The intense heatwave continued to grip Haryana and Punjab on Monday, with Sirsa recording the highest temperature of the season at a scorching 48.4 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Sirsa was the hottest spot, with Mahendragarh following closely at 47.5 degrees Celsius. Other areas in Haryana also faced extreme temperatures: Rohtak recorded 47.1 degrees, Jhajjar 47 degrees, Bhiwani 45.5 degrees, Gurugram 46 degrees, Faridabad 46.9 degrees, Karnal 44.2 degrees, Hisar 46.3 degrees, and Ambala at 44.5 degrees Celsius.
Chandigarh, the shared capital of both states, experienced severe heat with a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius.
Punjab also faced the brunt of the heatwave. Amritsar recorded 45.4 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda hit 45.6 degrees. Ludhiana saw temperatures of 44.8 degrees, Patiala 45.4 degrees, Pathankot 45.1 degrees, Faridkot 45.6 degrees, Gurdaspur 43.5 degrees, Ferozepur 45.7 degrees, and Mohali reached 43.6 degrees Celsius.
According to the meteorological department, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from May 27 to 30. The continuing extreme temperatures have raised concerns about health and safety, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
As the region endures these blistering conditions, authorities are advising people to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and take steps to stay cool and protected from the extreme weather.
