Agency (Maharashtra): Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the contentious statements made by his party colleague Vijay Wadettiwar about the death of Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Wadettiwar claimed that Karkare was not killed by a bullet from terrorist Ajmal Kasab, but rather by one from a police officer linked to the RSS.
Addressing reporters, Tharoor underscored the gravity of the allegations and advocated for an official inquiry. He referenced the book “Who Killed Karkare” by former IPS officer S N Mushrif, which supports similar claims, suggesting that the bullets found in Karkare’s body were not fired by the terrorists.
Tharoor highlighted the importance of resolving these serious allegations to honor the legacy of Karkare, who is revered as a patriotic officer. He also criticized the misuse of Karkare’s death in political narratives, particularly pointing out the incorrect claims made by Ujjwal Nikam, the BJP’s Mumbai North Central candidate and the special public prosecutor in the 26/11 trial, about Kasab being served biryani in jail, which was refuted by former IPS officer Meeran Borwankar.
The Congress leader pointed out that such significant and disturbing assertions about the circumstances surrounding Karkare’s death demand a rigorous and unbiased investigation to uncover the truth.
