Agency (Agartala, Tripura): Facing significant disruptions in railway goods transport, the Tripura government has imposed immediate restrictions on the sale of motor spirit (MS) and high-speed diesel (HSD) to manage the ongoing fuel supply crisis in the state. This rationing effort, which began on May 1, 2024, aims to ensure equitable distribution across different types of vehicles during this shortage period.
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs outlined the rationing details, which include daily sales limits at retail outlets of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). Specifically, two-wheelers and three-wheelers are allowed to purchase fuel worth Rs 200 per day, while four-wheelers are limited to Rs 500 per day. Diesel restrictions vary by truck type, with allowances ranging from 20 liters to 80 liters per day based on the number of wheels.
Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) such as three-wheelers and four-wheelers have specific liter caps per day, and this also extends to buses and mini-buses with set limits to manage consumption. Notably, these restrictions exempt vehicles involved in governmental duties and emergency services, including health services.
Additionally, the sale of MS and HSD in containers has been strictly prohibited, except for specific machinery like dozers, tractors, and generators, which must present valid registration or ownership proof.
This rationing order remains in effect until further notice as the state government works to stabilize the fuel supply chain and mitigate the impact on residents and businesses. The public is urged to comply with these measures to help ensure that the limited fuel resources are used judiciously during this period of constrained supply.
