Agency (New Delhi): The Delhi Police has initiated a formal investigation following the circulation of a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on various social media platforms. The video inaccurately depicted Shah as proposing the removal of constitutional reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Telangana. Originally, Shah’s comments were about different unconstitutional reservations for a religious group.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police acted swiftly by registering a case, prompted by the BJP’s legal complaint. BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya clarified that the video was distorted to falsely suggest Shah’s advocacy for abolishing SC/ST reservation quotas. He noted that the altered video was widely shared, including by official accounts linked to the Congress party, intensifying the controversy.
In response to these developments, an FIR has been lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. The police are now considering arrests nationwide, with the BJP providing specifics on the sources of the misleading content.
In the midst of this uproar, Amit Shah reiterated the BJP’s stance on Sunday, affirming the party’s commitment to maintaining reservation policies for SCs, STs, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He emphatically stated that the BJP would not only preserve these reservations but would also prevent any attempts to abolish them.
Opposition claims have surfaced suggesting that the BJP’s electoral slogan “abki baar 400 paar” reflects an agenda to secure enough parliamentary seats to eliminate these quotas. However, Shah countered these allegations by asserting that the BJP has consistently supported reservations during its governance and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with enforcing rights for backward communities. Shah branded this commitment as a “Modi guarantee,” challenging Rahul Gandhi’s assertions to the contrary.
