Agency (Haryana): In a surprising archaeological find, three metal idols, estimated to be around 400 years old, were unearthed in Baghanki village near Manesar, Haryana. This discovery occurred during the excavation for a new house construction using a JCB machine, according to local police.
Upon finding the idols, the property owner initially attempted to hide the discovery, even offering a bribe to the JCB operator to keep the find a secret. However, the driver disclosed the find to the Bilaspur police two days later, prompting an immediate investigation at the site.
The artifacts recovered include individual idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, along with a combined idol of the two deities. These items have now been entrusted to Banani Bhattacharya, the Deputy Director of the Archaeology Department, and Dr. Kush Dhebar for further examination and preservation.
Local villagers expressed a desire to keep the idols within the community, proposing the construction of a temple on the site. However, officials from the Archaeology Department declined this request, stating that the idols are government property and are slated for inclusion in a museum after necessary studies and laboratory examinations are completed.
Further excavations are planned at the site to explore the possibility of more such historical artifacts being present. This find not only underscores the rich cultural heritage of the region but also raises questions about the preservation and ethical handling of such discoveries.
