Agency(Odisha): Odisha is currently grappling with a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring across the state. Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest location, recording a peak temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. This marked the second day in a row that Baripada registered the highest temperature in the state, following a high of 41.4 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Other towns also experienced extreme heat, with Nuapada and Paralakhemundi reaching 42.4 degrees Celsius. Talcher and Boudh were not far behind at 42 degrees, while Bhubaneswar and Malkangiri recorded temperatures of 41.9 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Bhubaneswar Centre forecasts that the hot and humid conditions will persist over the next four days. A further increase of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected in many areas, potentially pushing temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius between April 18 and 20.
In response to the escalating heat, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for residents in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh for April 17. Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions against the heat.
