Agency (Bengaluru): Recognizing the immense potential of the manufacturing sector in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing India’s global competitiveness, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap under its “Modi ki Guarantee for Global Manufacturing Hub” as part of its election manifesto.
The party pledges to build on the success of its flagship Make in India and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes to position India as a global manufacturing hub. The BJP aims to expand the PLI scheme to cover more sectors and attract greater foreign investment, technology transfer, and domestic capacity building.
To facilitate the growth of manufacturing, the manifesto proposes the development of industrial cities across various industrial corridors, in line with the principles of the PM Gati Shakti initiative. These cities will be equipped with world-class infrastructure, logistics support, and a conducive business environment to attract global manufacturers and promote balanced regional development.
The BJP also aims to transform India from a services-led economy to a product-led one, leveraging its strengths in engineering, design, and innovation. The party proposes to create a supportive ecosystem for product development, including funding support, mentorship, and market access, to help Indian companies create world-class products and brands.
Recognizing the importance of sector-specific interventions, the manifesto outlines the BJP’s vision for developing India as a global hub for various industries. These include electronics manufacturing, where the party aims to build on the success of the $100 billion industry and position India as a major player in the global value chain; defense manufacturing, with a focus on accelerating indigenization and exports; railways, with an emphasis on promoting manufacturing, research, and development; and pharmaceuticals, where the party aims to strengthen India’s position as the “Pharmacy of the World” by boosting production and research capacities.
The BJP also pledges to harness the potential of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet of Things to drive the next phase of industrial growth. The party aims to create a conducive environment for the adoption of Industry 4.0 practices, including the establishment of Centers of Excellence, skill development programs, and incentives for technology upgradation.
Other key initiatives include promoting the growth of the food processing industry through the establishment of smart food processing hubs, supporting the transition of core industries like steel, cement, and engineering goods towards greener manufacturing processes, developing India as a global aviation and MRO hub, promoting shipbuilding under the Make in India initiative, developing rare earths and strategic mineral industries, and transforming India into a global hub for textiles, toys, and lab-grown diamonds.
