Agency(New Delhi): During a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu’s Vellore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a vehement critique against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of monopolizing corruption and hindering state progress. Modi described the DMK as a “family company” entrenched in an outdated mindset that obstructs the advancement of Tamil Nadu’s youth.
Modi also accused the DMK of dividing the populace along linguistic, regional, religious, and caste lines, predicting the party’s decline once the public sees through these tactics. He pledged to reveal the long-standing perilous politics of the DMK. Additionally, Modi revisited the Katchatheevu islet issue, questioning the decision-making process behind its cession and implying it served specific undisclosed interests. He contrasted this with the NDA government’s actions, which he claimed have safeguarded Indian fishermen’s rights against Sri Lankan actions.
Further attacking the Congress, Modi criticized Rahul Gandhi for remarks perceived as undermining Hindu faith and linked these views with the DMK’s alleged disparagement of Sanatana Dharma and their boycotts of Hindu ceremonies. Modi emphasized that the INDI alliance, which includes the DMK, has historically mistreated women, citing the treatment of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as evidence.
In his concluding remarks, Modi appealed for support for the BJP and NDA to preserve “Sanatan Shakti” and honor for women. In response, DMK’s leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, likened Modi’s periodic visits to those of migratory birds, suggesting they were opportunistic and questioning the sincerity of Modi’s election promises. Stalin highlighted this point on the social media platform X, underscoring the political rivalry intensifying ahead of the 2024 general elections.
