Agency(New Delhi): In recent developments from the Delhi excise policy case, BRS leader K Kavitha’s judicial custody has been extended for an additional two weeks. The decision was made by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja for ED and CBI cases after Kavitha’s previous remand period expired, setting the new custody period to last until April 23.
This extension follows the court’s denial of interim bail to Kavitha on Monday, citing her alleged involvement in destroying evidence and influencing witnesses. Judge Baweja emphasized that there is a substantial likelihood of Kavitha continuing such activities if released, justifying the need for continued judicial oversight.
Kavitha, 46, a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been identified by the Enforcement Directorate as a crucial figure in the “South Group”. This group is accused of providing kickbacks amounting to Rs 100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, aimed at securing a major portion of the liquor licenses in the city. She was initially arrested at her residence in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills on March 15. The ongoing custody is part of the legal processes addressing the allegations of significant financial misconduct linked to the Delhi government’s excise policy.
