Agency(Uttar Pradesh): The Congress party has intensified its critique of the BJP’s governance in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that the state’s youth have been misled by what it calls the “Double-Engine” government. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh voiced these concerns just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Pilibhit, challenging the Prime Minister to address these critical issues directly.
Ramesh highlighted the BJP’s repeated promises on job creation, a sore point given the backdrop of persistent unemployment issues in the state. “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s pledge to create two crore new jobs in the next few years mirrors unmet promises from the BJP since 2014, which have only been followed by record unemployment and sluggish economic growth,” Ramesh stated. He questioned the feasibility of these promises, given the historical precedent of similar unfulfilled commitments by the BJP.
The situation is further aggravated by recurring scandals involving the leakage of exam papers for government jobs, affecting millions of job aspirants. Ramesh pointed out that under the Modi administration, over 43 different government recruitment exams have been compromised, casting a shadow over the futures of approximately two crore candidates. “The most recent disruption involved 60 lakh candidates for the UP Police Exams, whose prospects were jeopardized due to cancellations stemming from leaks,” he added.
In response, the Congress has proposed the ‘Yuva Nyay Guarantee’, which includes commitments to recruit 30 lakh government employees and provide a guaranteed one-year apprenticeship for all graduates and diploma holders. This plan aims to establish institutions and practices to prevent such leaks and ensure fair recruitment processes.
As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Congress is challenging the BJP to articulate a clear strategy to resolve these ongoing issues and safeguard the interests of the youth in Uttar Pradesh. Ramesh’s call for Prime Minister Modi to “break his silence” on these matters underscores the political stakes involved in addressing the grievances of this crucial demographic.
