Agency(New Delhi): In a speech at the induction of backward class leaders into the BJP in Ranebennur, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to fostering robust inclusive growth. He also chastised the current Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, claiming they had lost touch with the common people due to their “intoxication of power.”
Bommai stated, “Ensuring a strong inclusive growth has been a guarantee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The chief minister and deputy chief minister thought the state was under their control. Some great leaders would come out of control to ensure a change in the situation. The CM, deputy chief minister and others were not seeing people due to intoxication of power as they were surrounded only by sycophants. They would understand the reality after the announcement of the results. Those backward class leaders who joined the BJP would be treated with respect.”
Bommai highlighted the contrast between Karnataka’s political landscape and that of other states, emphasizing the maturity of Karnataka’s electorate. He provided historical examples to support his argument, underscoring voters’ capacity to make well-informed decisions at the polls.
“The situation was quite contrast in other states. But the picture was totally different in Karnataka as the voters were mature. The people did not support the state government led by Ramakrishna Hegde in Lok Sabha polls but he got overwhelming support in the subsequent Assembly election after he tendered resignation. In 2013, the Karnataka voters supported the Congress party but it was rejected in the parliamentary election held the next year and votes for Narendra Modi,” Bommai said.
He noted that over the past decade, global perceptions of India have shifted. Previously, news of terrorist attacks dominated headlines, but under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has taken a stronger stance against threats from Pakistan. Despite developed countries facing recession, India has achieved an impressive 7% growth rate. The BJP government has provided 8 lakh houses to citizens, along with water and toilet facilities for every household, showcasing their commitment to inclusive development.
Bommai praised the PM Kisan Sanman scheme, which provided Rs 4000 to farmers but was discontinued by the current Congress government. He criticized the ruling party’s handling of the severe drought situation, accusing them of discussing the water crisis in Vidhana Soudha while sipping aerated water, oblivious to the grim realities faced by rural areas. He claimed that no development works were underway in the state, a sentiment echoed by ruling Congress MLAs.
The former Chief Minister also lambasted the Congress for their tardy implementation of the five guarantees and their silence on implementing the backward classes commission report, which they had promised before the parliamentary election. He accused them of diverting funds earmarked for SCs/STs to implement the guarantees, thereby doing injustice to the backward classes.
Bommai urged voters to support the BJP for development, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusive growth and the well-being of all citizens. The event was attended by former ministers Byrati Basavaraj and B C Patil, as well as District President Arun Kumar Pujar, among others.
