Agency(Tamil Nadu): The AIADMK, a key opposition party in Tamil Nadu, disclosed its initial batch of 16 candidates on Wednesday for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19. Under the leadership of General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, the party expressed strong belief in its ability to dominate the elections, reminiscent of its impressive victory in 2014 when it secured 37 out of 39 seats as a solo contender. Highlighted constituencies include North Chennai, South Chennai, Arakkonam, Kancheepuram, and Villpuram, with some being reserved seats.
Notably, the candidate roster features former MP J Jayavardhan and former MLA Dr P Saravanan, along with several key party figures. Palaniswami, in a subsequent press conference, criticized the governing DMK for what he sees as a decline in state law and order, while asserting the AIADMK’s growing public support, which he believes will guide the party to another electoral success.
Palaniswami mentioned the party’s coalition, including the DMDK founded by the late actor Vijayakanth. He challenged the DMK’s fulfillment of its election promises, such as the NEET cancellation, and criticized the DMK-led coalition’s parliamentary performance, especially regarding the Cauvery water dispute. Palaniswami promises that the AIADMK will ensure Tamil Nadu’s concerns are heard in Parliament.
The AIADMK’s electoral promise, set to be detailed in an upcoming manifesto, signals a robust campaign strategy. Additionally, a seat-sharing agreement with Puthiya Tamizhagam, led by Dr K Krishnasamy, assigns them the Tenkasi (SC) seat, indicating strategic alliances aiming to strengthen the party’s electoral base. With the election date fast approaching, the AIADMK’s preparation showcases its determination to make a significant impact in the Lok Sabha elections.
