Agency( Mangaluru): St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) in Mangaluru has been granted Deemed-to-be-University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Union Ministry of Education. This significant milestone was officially announced on January 19, marking a new era for the institution renowned for its educational excellence since its establishment in 1880 by the Jesuit fathers.
The newly accorded status empowers St. Aloysius College to further enhance its educational offerings, enabling the creation of a dynamic ecosystem characterized by cutting-edge curricula, advanced research, and innovative initiatives in entrepreneurship. Principal Praveen Martis and Rector Melwin J Pinto highlighted the opportunities this status presents for establishing robust partnerships across regional, national, and international levels. They emphasized the potential for developing interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and trans-disciplinary programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, including joint and twinning programs that provide students with valuable cross-cultural experiences.
St. Aloysius College’s journey to autonomy began in 2007, and it has since maintained exemplary standards in academia and research, as evidenced by its performance in National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditations and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. The college has achieved an A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.67 out of 4 in all four cycles of NAAC accreditation and has consistently been ranked within the top 100 colleges in India for three consecutive terms by NIRF.
The transition to a deemed university is attributed to the collective efforts of the college’s management, faculty, students, and stakeholders, who have long aspired for this recognition. The designation as a Deemed-to-be-University stands as a testament to St. Aloysius College’s enduring commitment to academic excellence and its vision for the future.
