Agency(New Delhi): In a move that has sent ripples through political circles, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a search operation at the residence of BRS leader K Kavitha in Hyderabad. This action is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering activities. The specifics of the case’s connection to the previously terminated Delhi excise policy, which implicated Kavitha and others in dealings with a “South Group” of liquor merchants, remain undisclosed.
The ED’s interrogation of Kavitha, a BRS MLC and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao, ties her to attempts by the “South Group” to exert influence under the defunct Delhi excise policy for the 2021-22 period. This group is accused of orchestrating at least Rs 100 crore in kickbacks, allegedly facilitated by Vijay Nair for AAP leaders, implicating Kavitha along with Sarath Reddy and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy.
Reacting to the ED’s actions, BRS spokesperson Sravan Dasoju labeled the raids as politically motivated. He criticized both the BJP and Congress for collaborating against the Telangana-based party, led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, alleging a systematic campaign to tarnish the party’s image ahead of upcoming elections. Dasoju’s comments highlighted a perceived selectiveness in the ED and Income Tax Department’s operations, suggesting a bias that overlooks similar allegations against Congress leaders in the state.
Sravan Dasoju emphasized the party’s commitment to truth and justice, underlining their openness to lawful scrutiny by the ED and IT departments. However, he condemned the timing and selective nature of these probes as indicative of political vendetta rather than genuine legal scrutiny. This event has intensified the political discourse in Telangana, with implications for the broader national political landscape as allegations of misuse of central agencies for political ends continue to surface.
