Agency(Himachal Pradesh): Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, expressed concern on Wednesday over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) continuous efforts to subvert the democratic process in the state using financial power. This statement was made despite the BJP’s electoral defeat in the state 15 months prior, indicating their inability to accept their loss gracefully.
During a public gathering in the Shillai area of Sirmaur district, after initiating or announcing development projects totaling Rs 110 crore in the Shillai legislative constituency, CM Sukhu criticized the BJP for instigating the current political turmoil. He accused the party of attempting to erode democracy in the region.
“The attempts by the BJP to destabilize the state through such unethical practices, previously unseen in the political landscape of Himachal Pradesh, will not be forgotten by its citizens,” Sukhu asserted. He confidently stated that no scheme by the BJP to undermine the state’s stability would succeed, and he affirmed that the Congress government is set to complete its five-year tenure smoothly.
Highlighting his political journey, Sukhu shared his 35 years of experience filled with challenges, emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of Himachal Pradesh rather than personal power gains. He recounted how he declined ministerial positions offered by the late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, choosing instead to contribute to the Congress party’s growth and betterment.
Sukhu also addressed the remorse expressed by six Congress rebel Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) for their betrayal, noting that such actions would not be easily forgiven by the populace. These MLAs, he stated, have violated the trust of their voters and the sacred values of ‘Devbhumi’ Himachal Pradesh, which is intolerable to its citizens.
The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for financial mismanagement, recounting the dire state of the treasury he inherited, which lacked sufficient funds for even basic governmental operations. Through diligent efforts over the past 15 months to conserve funds and eliminate corruption, his administration has successfully generated an additional Rs 2,200 crore. These funds are now being allocated towards pensions for women, enhancements in health services and education, and various welfare initiatives throughout the state.
