Agency(Karnataka ): In Kalaburagi, Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar articulated on Wednesday that the purpose of guarantee schemes extends beyond electoral politics, focusing instead on the welfare of the populace. During a press briefing, Shivakumar expressed that the true measure of a party or government’s success lies in its ability to fulfill promises to the public. He clarified that these initiatives are designed to alleviate the pressures of escalating prices and inflation rather than to serve as electoral strategies.
Shivakumar highlighted the popular response to these schemes, mentioning that their acceptance even by opposition parties underscores their value. He noted, “Even the BJP has acknowledged our guarantee schemes, which is evident as Modi has begun to implement similar initiatives.” To ensure these schemes’ effective realization, plans are in motion to establish guarantee implementation frameworks at various administrative levels.
Addressing the state’s budget allocation, the Deputy Chief Minister disclosed that out of a total budget of Rs 3.74 lakh crores, Rs 1.26 lakh crores are earmarked for developmental projects. On the issue of Bengaluru’s drought situation, he reassured that the government is actively addressing the water scarcity, with measures like identifying solutions for the 7,000 borewells that have dried up in the city.
Furthermore, Shivakumar touched upon political dynamics, mentioning BJP leaders’ concurrence with MP Ananthkumar Hegde’s controversial views on amending the Constitution. He conveyed optimism about the Congress party’s prospects in the forthcoming general election, attributing BJP’s candidate changes in over 10 constituencies to incumbent MPs’ underperformance and growing anti-incumbency sentiments.
In his discourse, Shivakumar also paid respects to political figures across parties and outlined his election campaign strategy based on developmental achievements and principles. He discussed his and the Chief Minister’s state tour plans, aimed at dividing travel and campaign responsibilities effectively across Karnataka.
Finally, on the inter-state cooperation front, Shivakumar addressed the water scarcity challenges in Jewargi, indicating efforts to negotiate water release from Maharashtra, amidst competing requests from Telangana, emphasizing the need for collective action to resolve such issues.
