Agency(Karnataka): In a crucial move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP Central Election Committee, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned candidates for approximately 150 constituencies nationwide, including 15 pivotal ones in Karnataka. The deliberation saw the attendance of top BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and national general secretary (Organization) B.L. Santosh, among other prominent figures.
The decision came after a comprehensive discussion involving significant Karnataka state leaders like former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, state unit president B.Y. Vijayendra, and others. The focal point of the discussions was the allocation of all 28 seats in Karnataka, with particular attention on the seats to be reserved for the JD(S), the alliance partner. The consensus leaned towards offering only the Hassan and Mandya seats to JD(S).
Sources close to the matter revealed that several key names were endorsed during the meeting. These include Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for Hubballi-Dharwad, Tejasvi Surya for Bengaluru South, and P.C. Mohan for Bengaluru Central, among others. Additionally, new faces are being considered for certain constituencies, with a replacement for Bijapur’s sitting MP and discussions around changes for Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada seats.
The party is contending with anti-incumbency challenges in several constituencies, prompting discussions on candidate selection for these areas. Notable suggestions include the consideration of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar for Mysuru and potential shifts in candidacy for Udupi-Chikmagalur and Bengaluru North.
As the BJP gears up to officially announce its list of candidates, the selection process highlights strategic considerations and alliances shaping the party’s approach to the upcoming elections in Karnataka. With the anticipation building, the party’s choices reflect its adaptation to political dynamics and efforts to bolster its electoral prospects.
