Agency(Karnataka): Amidst the political turmoil following the victory of Congress leader Naseer Hussain in the Rajya Sabha elections, a controversy erupted over the alleged chanting of “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans by Congress workers. This incident took place outside the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, igniting a widespread debate and leading to severe criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which also highlighted a private forensic lab report supporting their claim.
KN Rajanna, a minister from Karnataka and a member of the Congress party, made a controversial statement suggesting that individuals found chanting pro-Pakistan slogans within the Assembly premises deserve to be executed. This assertion was made against the backdrop of the celebration for Naseer Hussain’s electoral win, where the contentious slogans were reportedly voiced, tarnishing the Congress party’s reputation according to detractors.
The BJP leveraged this incident to attack the Congress, alleging that such actions insult the people of Karnataka and the nation as a whole. In response, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah mandated an inquiry by the state’s Forensic Science Laboratory, which led to the arrest of three individuals accused of participating in the slogan chanting.
Further intensifying the situation, the BJP demanded that Syed Naseer Hussain, the victorious Congress leader, be implicated in the ensuing First Information Report (FIR). They argued for a rigorous investigation of the so-called “anti-national” Congress workers under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, accusing them of treason.
In a bid to underscore their point, the BJP presented images purportedly showing Rahul Gandhi, a senior Congress leader, alongside an individual arrested for the alleged slogan chanting. This move aimed to implicate the Congress leadership directly in the controversy, sparking a heated debate within the political arena and beyond.
The unfolding of these events has not only stirred a significant controversy but has also led to a polarized response from various quarters, with discussions about nationalism, freedom of expression, and the limits of political rhetoric taking center stage in the public discourse.
