Agency(New Delhi): Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, made a light-hearted comment during a session in Rajya Sabha, eliciting laughter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others present.
Kharge humorously remarked, “With a current majority of 330-334 seats, this time it will be above 400,” in reference to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election slogan of “abki baar 400 par” (this time, above 400 seats).
Union Minister Piyush Goyal supported Kharge’s statement, saying, “Kharge ji spoke the truth.” However, Kharge later contradicted himself, stating that the BJP would not even surpass 100 seats in the upcoming elections.
In the midst of the banter, Piyush Goyal mentioned the departure of an alliance member from the INDIA bloc, adding uncertainty to the alliance’s existence.
The light-hearted exchange between the leaders reflects the evolving political landscape in India as the Lok Sabha elections approach. The emerging INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) consortium is gearing up to challenge the established National Democratic Alliance.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA won 353 seats, the UPA stood at 91, and Others won 98. The Lok Sabha elections are likely to be held in April this year.
