Agency(New Delhi): Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, accused the Modi-led government of neglecting the issue of unemployment, stating that it is the “biggest issue” in the country. Speaking during the motion of thanks on the President’s address, Kharge pointed out that more than 30 lakh government posts are vacant in the country.
Kharge expressed concern over the declining state of public sectors, which are crucial for marginalized communities such as SC, ST, OBC, and the Economically Weaker Section. He emphasized that the government’s actions are leading to a reduction in job opportunities. Currently, there are approximately 30 lakh vacant government posts, but Kharge criticized the Modi government for not addressing this issue.
He urged the government to pay attention to the problem of unemployment, emphasizing its significance. Kharge highlighted the shortage of staff in various institutions, including AIIMS and hospitals, and questioned why the government is not providing necessary resources where they are needed.
Kharge also mentioned the ‘Agneepath Yojana’ and criticized the Modi government for implementing it in the Air Force and Navy without consultation. He noted that the scheme’s original plan of retaining 75% of personnel and releasing 25% has been reversed.
Furthermore, Kharge raised concerns about rising prices of essential commodities such as tomatoes, onions, milk, flour, rice, and pigeon peas, which have doubled. He criticized the Modi government for not addressing inflation.
He also pointed out that the Modi government had promised to double the income of farmers and increase Minimum Support Prices (MSP). However, he stated that the annual income of farmers has declined by 1.5% in recent years, and over Rs 1 lakh crore of the agriculture budget has been surrendered in the last five years.
