New Delhi (Agency): In a surprising revelation, Kapil Dev, the iconic former India captain who steered the team to their first-ever ODI World Cup triumph in 1983, disclosed that he was not invited to the World Cup final between India and Australia. Dev expressed his desire to attend the game alongside his 1983 teammates but was unable to due to the lack of an invitation.
Speaking to ABP News, Kapil Dev conveyed his disappointment, noting that the magnitude of the event and the extensive responsibilities of the organizers might have led them to overlook extending an invitation to him.
The final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, saw the presence of various dignitaries and celebrities. Among the former India captains in attendance was Sourav Ganguly, invited in his capacity as a former BCCI president. Inviting past presidents and officials is a customary practice of the BCCI.
The match also attracted prominent figures from the entertainment and sports industries, including actors Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and badminton legend Prakash Padukone, who were seen in the stands.
Kapil Dev’s absence from such a significant event, especially given his monumental contribution to Indian cricket, has raised questions and highlighted the need for recognizing and honoring the legends of the game appropriately at key cricketing events.
