New Delhi (Agency): In a significant political development in Uttar Pradesh, India, the Samajwadi Party claimed victory in the Ghosi Assembly bypolls held recently. Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav stated on Friday that the win reflects the general public’s sentiment against the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
Yadav thanked the voters and the local administration for conducting a fair election. “The victory of Samajwadi Party in Ghosi is a blessing of the people. I thank the voters of Ghosi and also the administration there for conducting fair polls,” said the Samajwadi Party secretary general.
He went on to say that the public has turned against the BJP government and is leaning towards the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a political bloc.
Earlier in the day, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also celebrated the win, congratulating candidate Sudhakar Singh for his performance. Akhilesh Yadav labeled the win a “victory” for the INDIA bloc and predicted that this positive momentum would carry over into the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Ghosi bypoll became necessary after Dara Singh Chauhan, who won the seat in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls as a Samajwadi Party candidate, switched back to the BJP. Sudhakar Singh, the Samajwadi Party candidate in the bypoll, won by a substantial margin of 42,759 votes.
This bypoll win is seen as a political marker, indicating possible trends in voter sentiment as India prepares for future elections. The Samajwadi Party is clearly buoyed by this win and believes it signifies a broader shift in public opinion against the BJP, who currently hold the federal government and are a significant force in various state governments across India.
