New Delhi (Agency): Chandra Bose, the grandnephew of legendary nationalist leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Bose cited unfulfilled promises related to propagating the vision and ideology of Netaji as the reason for his decision.
Chandra Bose had joined the BJP in 2016 and had actively participated in the party’s activities. He even contested elections on the BJP’s ticket, running in both the 2016 assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In his statement, Chandra Bose expressed his initial hope and understanding when he joined the BJP. He claimed that he was promised the opportunity to promote the inclusive ideology of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Sarat Chandra Bose, Netaji’s elder brother and another freedom fighter. This ideology aimed to unite all communities as “Bharatiyas” (Indians), transcending religious, caste, and creed boundaries.
However, Chandra Bose lamented that his efforts to propagate this ideology on the BJP platform received no support, neither at the central level nor at the state level in West Bengal, where he was appointed as the West Bengal BJP vice-president in 2016. He also highlighted that his detailed proposals for a Bengal Strategy to connect with the people of the state were ignored.
Furthermore, Chandra Bose had previously criticized the state BJP leadership on various issues and publicly opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019, taking a stance contrary to the party’s official position.
In response to Chandra Bose’s resignation, BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya stated that he had not been in contact with the party for quite some time.
