New Delhi (Agency): In response to the distressing increase in student suicides among NEET and JEE aspirants in Kota, District Collector OP Bunkar has penned an uplifting letter to encourage and reassure the students. The letter underscores the importance of seeking support and exploring different avenues despite facing challenges.
Bunkar’s inspirational letter, written on Sunday, emphasizes resilience and offers a message of hope to students grappling with academic and emotional pressures. He urges students not to be disheartened by failures, asserting that when one door closes, numerous other opportunities await.
Addressing the students, Bunkar writes, “You are not alone in the city. I am here (main hoon na), doors of my office and home are always open for every student. Don’t hesitate. Learn to share the stress. Whatever kind of fear or stress you have, do share it with me.”
The district collector has directed coaching institutes, hostels, and paying guest accommodations to prominently display his letter, reinforcing the availability of support for struggling students.
Kota is a renowned coaching hub that witnesses an influx of over 2.5 lakh students annually, seeking preparation for competitive exams such as JEE for engineering and NEET for medical college admissions. Unfortunately, 2023 has recorded the highest number of student suicides, with 22 reported so far—a distressing trend that prompted Bunkar’s response.
The collector’s letter expresses deep concern over these tragic incidents and encourages students to approach challenges with resilience. He empathizes with parents’ sacrifices and emphasizes the importance of considering their dreams and aspirations.
Bunkar recalls interacting with students and acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He reminds them that setbacks are not determinants of their personality or future success. The letter encourages students to explore the city’s natural attractions, gardens, and relaxation spots as a means of rejuvenation.
The district collector concludes with a message of strength and determination: “Dear students, you are strong, have got a lot to live life. You have the courage to move on ahead surmounting every weakness and difficulty. Believe it, nobody can defeat you until you yourself succumb to defeat.”
The letter serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role that emotional support and encouragement play in the lives of students facing academic and personal challenges. As the educational community seeks to address the mental health and well-being of students, initiatives like Bunkar’s letter promote a more compassionate and understanding environment for aspiring young minds.
