New Delhi (Agency): New Delhi is buzzing with activity as the G20 Summit nears, a meeting that brings together leaders from around the world. Hotels in the city are gearing up for a business boom. While the major city-center hotels are grabbing headlines for hosting world leaders, Aerocity hotels are quietly preparing for their share of the action.
The city’s central hotels are expected to fill 1,500 rooms each day during the three-day summit. These bookings will not only include delegates from G20 member states but also security staff, airline crews, and media teams. Even 14 major organizations like the IMF and World Bank are set to join the event. Some well-known leaders, such as US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, will be staying at prestigious city hotels like the ITC Maurya and Taj Palace, respectively.
However, Aerocity hotels, located slightly away from the city center and holding 3,600 keys, are not worried. Vineet Mishra, Cluster General Manager of Pullman and Novotel, Aerocity, said, “City center hotels for sure are reaping the choicest rewards, but Aerocity is also getting its fair share, be it from the overflow of bookings or from regular travelers who seek value without compromising on quality.” He added that many media teams and support functions are also booking at Aerocity hotels due to the overflow.
What about regular travelers or tourists who have plans to stay in Delhi during the summit? According to Ashwni Kumar Goela, Area General Manager, Radisson Hotel Group (South Asia), “Apart from the designated hotels in Delhi hosting the G20 delegates, there are numerous other hotels across the city where regular guests can find accommodation.” He also mentioned that neighboring areas like Gurugram and Noida have hotels that can provide quality stays.
Hotel managers are not just excited about the immediate impact of the summit but are also optimistic about future opportunities it may bring. The summit is expected to boost the region’s reputation as a host for world-class events. Satyajeet Krishnan, Area Vice-President and General Manager of The Taj Mahal Hotel, emphasized, “The Summit is not a one-off event, but the beginning of a series of regional and business-to-business meetings that will keep driving up occupancies and also lift room rates closer to what New York or London hotels command.”
Thus, whether it’s the city-center hotels that are catching the limelight or the Aerocity hotels that are capturing the overflow, the G20 Summit is set to bring a significant business boost to the hotel industry in Delhi, with lasting impacts expected well beyond the event itself.
