New Delhi (Agency): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledged on Friday to raise the concerns of the people of Ladakh in the Indian Parliament, alleging that their “political voice” was being suppressed and that the central government’s promises regarding employment were “false.” He made these remarks after touring the Union Territory of Ladakh for the past week.
Gandhi stated, “I went to every corner of Ladakh and talked to the youth, mothers and sisters, and the poor. There are other leaders who only talk about their ‘Mann Ki Baat’. I want to listen to your ‘Mann Ki Baat’,” taking an apparent swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast.
Furthermore, he addressed the border tensions with China, claiming that China had taken thousands of kilometers of Indian land. “The prime minister is lying by denying this, and every person in Ladakh knows this,” Gandhi said in a post on social media.
Identifying the main issues in Ladakh, he pointed to the suppression of political voices, false promises on employment, and a lack of mobile network and air connectivity. He committed to raising these concerns in the next session of Parliament and expressed gratitude to Ladakh for the warm reception he received.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh added that the Modi government had left Ladakh to fend for itself and accused leaders of being more interested in their thoughts than the people’s voices.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Ladakh began on August 17, marking his first trip to the region since it was granted Union Territory status in August 2019 after being carved out from Jammu and Kashmir. During his tour, Gandhi visited various parts of Ladakh, including Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, Khardungla Top, Lamayuru, and Zanskar, exploring the region on his motorcycle.
