Islamabad: At least 12 people were killed in a powerful explosion at the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad’s G-11 area on Tuesday, according to reports by Dawn.
A senior Islamabad police official confirmed the casualties, adding that the cause of the blast is still under investigation. Security agencies have yet to determine whether the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or another source.
Videos circulating on social media showed flames and dense smoke billowing from the wreckage of a charred vehicle behind a security barricade near the court premises. The sound of the blast was reportedly heard up to six kilometres away, DawnNewsTV reported.
Following the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area, while rescue and forensic teams rushed to the site to assist victims and collect evidence.
Authorities have not yet commented on the motive or potential suspects involved in the attack.
