Bengaluru – The Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) police in Bengaluru’s West Division have arrested yoga guru Niranjan Murthy, secretary of the Karnataka Yogasana Sports Association (KYSA), in connection with allegations of sexual assault involving a minor boy and multiple women.

The case has been registered under Sections 69 and 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incidents reportedly took place between January 1, 2023, and August 30, 2025, at the Sunshine Institute in RR Nagar, which is operated by Murthy.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant had known Murthy since 2019 and began participating in yoga competitions organized by him in 2021. In 2023, at the age of 17, the complainant traveled to Thailand with Murthy for a competition, where the first incident of alleged sexual harassment occurred. Following this, the complainant withdrew from further events.

In 2024, the complainant rejoined the Sunshine Institute but reportedly faced repeated harassment. In August 2025, Murthy allegedly made physical advances, promising the complainant a medal and a spot in the National Yoga Competition. Another incident reportedly occurred on August 22, 2025, with similar promises related to state-level placement. The complaint was formally lodged on August 30, 2025, at 10 PM.

The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Srikanth Pammar. Authorities emphasized that the identity of the complainant has been withheld in accordance with legal standards for protecting victims of sexual assault.

Separate Vandalism Case in Halasur

In a separate incident, the Halasur Police arrested three individuals linked to two cases of vandalism that occurred on June 28, 2025. The suspects — Maksad Ahmad Bin Rehmat Ullakhan, Izar Pasha Bin Nurullah Pasha, and Hamid Tabrez Bin Qasim Ali — were apprehended on July 28 after a detailed investigation.

The accused reportedly set fire to several two-wheelers and bicycles on Kaliyamma Speed B No. 4th Street, damaging 10 two-wheelers, seven bicycles, a car, and a vegetable shop stand using petrol. The police found that the incident was linked to a personal vendetta by Mansood Ahmed against two local individuals, Pahad and Sarfuddin, who are currently in jail for a murder case.
