Actually, a referendum for constitution amendment was held in Russia.The idea of this constitutional amendment was that of President Vladimir Putin.Most people voted in favor of the amendment. The prizes were placed so that more and more people took interest to vote. Russia’s Parliament has already passed the amendment, but Putin also got the seal of the people on this idea and now the path for Putin to remain in power till 2036 is cleared. It is possible that he will stay in power longer than Joseph Stalin.
On the contrary, there has been no independent investigation into this voting which lasted for seven days. Opposition is talking about irregularities in voting. Regarding the constitutional amendment, Putin says that he did this for democracy and better government, but many experts in Russia believe that this is one of his plans of change. That means after 20 years in power, he has some personal interests, friends, he has a system. Suddenly he cannot disappear.
What will Putin get from the constitution amendment?
So the biggest question was what will happen when his presidential term ends in 2024. So what will be special from this constitutional amendment?
- The first thing is that now the powers of the President will be slightly reduced and no one else will be able to stay in power like Putin and as long as Putin. So far, Russia’s presidency is more powerful than any other country. The President of Russia can also dismiss the Parliament of Russia.
- Secondly, this amendment will increase the powers of Parliament a little. Till now the President used to appoint the Prime Minister and the Duma accepted that decision. Now the Parliament will be able to appoint the Prime Minister and then the Prime Minister will form his cabinet. Putin himself said that this means that the President will not be able to reject these candidates. He will have to obey the Parliament.
- The third important thing is to increase the powers of the State Council and recognize it as a government agency. Till now the State Council functioned as an advisory council. It is believed that this State Council can act like a judge. Meaning whenever there is a dispute, the decision of the State Council will be final. There are rumors that Putin may head the new State Council. If this happens, their decision will be considered as the final decision. In a way, everyone is under their control.
Experts say that there are more chances of Putin becoming the Prime Minister. But Putin is not so easy to understand. Nobody knows what he is going to do. Putin was never in favor of hastily changing the constitution, but now he settled such a big amendment quickly amid the Corona epidemic.
